Hi
I just got my Sony Xperia XZ today, and it has exactly the same problem I had before with the Z3.
Please note that this is straight out of the box experience, I have installed only a few apps, such as Spotify and Twitter.
When I plug in my headphones (Audio Technica ATH-CKS55i) (they have a mic as well), they are properly detected by my phone. I then proceed to listen to something from Spotify, or Youtube, it doesnt really matter what, because even if I just leave them plugged in, without any sound or music playing at all, after a few moments (usually 10-20 seconds), the detection of the headphones are lost, and the music is either paused or plays through the speakers.
I have a few other phones I've used my headphones with, without any problems at all. Such as Samsung S7, Lumia 1520, Lumia 950 XL, Samsung Note 2, as well as my stationary computer with built in soundcard (realtek) and a Fujitsu LIFEBOOK NH532. Only the Xperia XZ(and my old Z3) has this issue.
Does anyone know of anything that might fix this problem? It has to be software, but what could it be, something built in to the Xperia line? Some setting I don't know about?
Would gladly appreciate some help as I've searched for hours upon hours for a solution to this problem with no avail.
Thanks for reading
I've noticed the same problem with my headphone (Bose QC20i). It seems to be a software problem. Can they do a quick fix ? It would be nice. Maybe they can work on the CTIO support.
Ablos
Interesting, I notice that the Bose QC20i have a mic as well. What is CTIO? Don't Xperia have that ? Is it necessary in order for it to work properly ?
Did you try clearing the cache of your SmartConnect app? It works most of the time on older Z phones:
- Go to Settings -> Apps -> Smart Connect -> Force stop, Uninstall updates, Clear data and restart your phone.
- Go to your Play Store and update Smart Connect again.
In fact when a headphone has a mic, it has 2 types : CTIO or OTMP. CTIO is more for iPhone and OTMP for Android. This is why when you have a CTIO remote you can't control it with your Android device. And so is OTMP. But normally you can listen your music whatever your device
I have the same problem with my XZ in combination with the Bowers & Wilkens C5 Series 2 (yes, also with a mic).
With my Z3C the same headphones worked fine but with the XZ it just drops them after 5 seconds. I'm forcing it with the SoundAbout app as I read that various people also had this issue with the Z5 series. So it must be a software issue that Sony needs to fix because the SoundAbout app is not a permanent solution. Next to the fact that you have to manually change the output desired in the app it's just bad to have a 700euro phone not working properly...
I actually don't have the smart connect installed, but after seeing an earlier answer somewhere else on the forum I did install it, but then quickly removed after noticing that it did not fix my issue.
Viridis. Okay I tried with a new(different) pair of headphones now, no issue.
Does this mean that my headphones I do want to use can't be because of a software issue? That CTIO thing mentioned previously?
Seems very non-userfriendly to me. Especially since they do work, but it is shut off after an amount of time...
They don't have any branding or marking on them at all I'm sorry to say. They do have a mic tho, and a button. I'm guessing they might have been supplied together with either my Lumia 1520 or 950 XL, no way to be sure tho.
Hi all, I'm sorry to hear about this.
