when is the update comming?

come on man give us the 2.1 now stop testing our limits se ................why are u doing it to ur customers the service centers dont no anything bout it and u dont tell us anything ............................................................what do we have to do its been 7 months since the launch of x 10 but still no 2.1 u gota be ashamed bout it

From that link you know that update may be available by the last of October. So SE has clearly stated that, then why they have to give on information about the update. The discussion here made me feel that you all are outdated so I had to shout.

The tales of woe are getting more vociferous, and demonstrates a rebellion on the horizon. I read both this blog and the other blog, to  get a feeling of overall public sentiment, and it is not good.

I am compiling a list of my problems which I tolerate and work around.  Upon completion I will publish.

Hmm, I like the "may be available" qualification. The reason I was hoping for a little more information was that Mr Skogberg said (in the posting you quote yourself) that "I will keep you posted with more information and details as we go along". I'm not looking for any detail (let's be honest most of us probably don't want to know the depths of the software testing process anyway!) even just something as simple as "Yep, we're still on course for the end of October". It would have been a nice reminder that the folks who are waiting eagerly for this update for their precious X10's haven't been forgotten in all the brou-ha-ha about X8, LiveView, etc.

Yes, agreed, SonyE seem to be getting an awful lot of bad press in the blogosphere - hopefully they've noticed this too. I can't help wondering what the reaction's going to be if the eventual update turns out to be rock-steady and fast with some wonderful SonyE "value add" features. Well, a guy can dream, can't he ...

As to the list of "niggles" and "hate-this" - great idea. I can't help thinking that some of the stuff we're complaining about might be fixable. Certainly a lot of my initial dislike of the X10's foibles have now been resolve - some with the able assistance of fellow users on this forum. Unless someone (Samsung?) is going to offer a trade-in process for the X10's then we're "stuck" with them - so sensible to make the best of what we've got.    Although, I'm actually quite satisfied with my (UK spec) X10i at the moment - it's easily an improvement over the Nokia N95 that it replaced.

(b) the ship date (contrary to what SE in France and Brazil were saying) hasn't moved ... () yet! ()

Well, it's nice to hear that they seem to be on target for the end of October.

Just to touch on some of the earlier comments regarding usability of the phone with the current OS, and SE's obligation to upgrade, my purchase was based entirely on the stated q3 release date of the Android 2.1.

I had many smartphones to choose from. I was attracted to the Xperia X10 by the design and hardware specs, but I was initially turned off by the relatively antique OS, and the lack of certain features.

Some internet research revealed that while the phone would never run the most current version of Android (and I am tech savvy enough to know that NONE of the phones I was looking at ever would, they will ALWAYS be a few releases behind), the imminent 2.1 upgrade would provide everything I was looking for.

To me, this is very much a contract between me and SE, the EULA notwithstanding.

BTW, nice to see a forum that has people who are able to disagree strongly, and still communicate their points clearly without degenerating into flame wars.

Interesting reading, one or two factual errors (like the bit about not being able to bring updated 'droid phones to the US, when in fact it's a global problem) and I'd hardly call either RIM or Microsoft new players to the smartphone market, although it's probably arguable whether perhaps Samsung could be regarded as such.

As for the Symbian^3 and WP7 stuff - yes, that's been quoted elsewhere. I can see their point that if they're supposed to be focussing on Android, then bringing out a WP7 phone would make them a laughing stock. Symbian^3 less so, since they could argue that they're continuing to provide an "upgrade" path for their existing Symbian-based phones - well at least until I saw http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/87337934-d879-11df-8e05-00144feabdc0.html - which says Symbian-out, Android-in at SonyE.

Meanwhile fellow X10 owners, have you seen the latest from Mr Skogberg, namely http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/2010/10/14/home-screen-and-hd-video-in-the-x10-update, note the crucial phrase in that, to whit "The current plan still holds to start the roll-out towards the end of October and onwards.". I'm going to be optimistic and say that even though they're claiming that the phone shown isn't running the release candidate, the fact that they're now willing to show a version of the new OS release bodes well for them meeting their stated timeframe. Yay!

Or you could be pessimistic and point out that, if they think they got hauled over the coals for missing the September deadline, then that's nothing compared to the abuse that they'll get for missing the revised deadline. And, as the Forbes article identifies, this is now seen as a major issue for them in the general press.
