This timescale apparently "confirmed" by a posting on Twitter by SE-UK.

I, for one, can't wait !!!!

I don't think they will do that.

Please kep in mind this is a secondhand information. Take it with a grain of salt.

No ... it ... isn't. It's on the official SonyEricsson UK twitter feed. See for yourself : http://twitter.com/SonyEricssonUK/status/22180941832

Actually, strike that, first hand would be from the SE X10 development team - but they're too busy/important/dumb (*delete as appropriate). But I'll take that post (unless it's from some pink-slipped soon-to-be-ex employee - in which case surely there'd be a retraction) as hard data - at least until proven otherwise. Thinking_Face

Two weeks and counting...?  Smiling_Face_with_Heart-eyes

Interesting reply on their page (http://twitter.com/SonyEricssonUK) "@mmk92 We can only currently confirm the release of Android 2.1. Any further information will be available once this is released.".  So if you want to be really (actually "stupidly") optimistic, then  maybe (and I've got my fingers, legs, arms, etc crossed at this point) we'll get a timescale for 2.2 issued once the 2.1 OTAU is available. Never mind socks, aftershave, DVD's, etc - that would be a Christmas present I'd love to unwrap! Smiling_Face_with_open_mouth_&_closed_Eyes  Oh, and note the text: "currently confirm the release of Android 2.1"

Cool. So it is fairly confirmed, and yes I'll go start the death ray on the moon just in case they start eating their words again. Where should I take aim? Ericsson Sweden HQ or Sony Japan HQ?

Bluebobx, take my advice, go on and live your regular life. They may or may not announce 2.2. And even if they do so, they may not deliver on time. That makes it less than 20% chance of it happening before or on Christmas 2010.

Yep, I'm doing that. Just thinking out loud that a 2.2 announcement after they've put the 2.1 update out there would have been good for all concerned. Like you, in the unlikely event that they do announce it, it's unlikely that we'll see it quickly. Personally, given the amount of MarketPlace app issues that 2.2 is causing, I'll be quite happy to wait until end Q1/2010 for 2.2 - although (again) if SE want to shock everyone and deliver before that, then I'll not complain too loudly. Winking_Face  Give me the 2.1 update (which - in true Linux fashion - does appear to be very stable) in the next 2-3 weeks and I'll definitely be content.

There's still talk of a post-2.1 update which improves the Sony-specific stuff - like Timescape and Mediascape along with the camera capabilities - in Q4. Again, if that's delivered then I think we'll have a pretty acceptable device at the end of the year.

Like you, I'm frustrated that we've got this nice piece of hardware (excepting the non-multitouch-capable screen) that's being (badly?) let down by shortcomings in the software.

Speaking of crappy software - thanks for the earlier tip about Startup Auditor. Smiling_Face_with_Sunglasses Unfortunately it's not recognizing the Spotify app (the aforementioned "crappy software") so I can't stop it starting, but it does work quite well at zapping the Moxier suite, (and the paid version of ATK works nicely to keep memory tidy). I'll drop the SA developer a mail and see there's a way to zap that darned Spotify! What I wouldn't do for a command line and the ability to "rpm -e Spotify"... Winking_Face

PS, definitely like the death-ray-on-the-moon idea. Cue the Imperial March from Star Wars ....

Looks like you are likely to be advised getting the paid version of Software Auditor to get stop Spotify from starting up.

Moxier Suite is a pain. All the bloatwares in the world are a pain in the A***.

I believe the upcoming 2.1 is supposed to improve on the camera as well. I just wish we can get Walkman app.... though that is very unlikely.

Here's to 2.1 and beyond.... Or else we'll just have to switch the death ray from stun to kill.
