Running hot

I have a VAIO PCG-GRZ615M which would seem to have a problem of dust inside the vent where the fan is housed, which is causing the laptop get overly warm/hot.
How easy/difficult is it to take the case apart and clean out the dust? Or is it a job for PC World or similar?
If it is easy to do can someone please let me know in detail the way to go about it

Thanks

in control panel go to power options
then go to vaio power management
in items chose system then CPU CONTROL wen plugged in chose adaptive before it was preformance so change it to adaptive and see if it will help u.

You can do it with compressed air into the vents, but be careful to leave at least 20cm between the can and the vent so you don't break the fan

does changing this setting not slow down your pc? it certainly makes a difference with the fan speed etc - so thanks 🙂

If a GRZ is anything like a GRX, remove the speaker grill (one screw located by firewire port) rhen slide it to the left and tilt upwards.

Then remove the one exposed screw for the keyboard and tilt the keyboard forward.

You will probably find a big furball in the CPU heat exchanger which is causing your problem.

Hi, I have a GRV616S with the same problem. Does anybody know how to access the fan to clean it? Your help will be much appreciated. Thank you, Massimo

Hi all. I follwed the advice of cleaning with compressed air and, as a first reasult after the cleaning my vent went dead! I pushed again some air in it and moved it with a "toothpick". It was reallly hard to move. I continued for a while till it started to move again a bit. Power-on, a couple of bad noises an now the vent is back in business and my CPU temperature is down to a normal 45-50 degrees. I don't know what caused the stop but BE VERY CAREFUL if you try this and remember to backup all your data before trying. I just wanted to share my experience. Thank you very much for your suggestions, ciao Massimo

Probably a dislodged "Furball" fouling the fan blades. Always a possibility with compressed air.

Sounds like you had a huge ball in there!
