Please Help!!!

I'm having some very unusual problems with my Vaio FX101.

When I switch it on I hear it power up but nothing comes up on the screen and there is no disk activity either. At first I thought that I burned out the processor but the wierd thing is that SOMETIMES it will power up and work fine, everything loads up and runs perfect and I can leave it on for a long time and it works fine. But once I switch it off and try to switch it back on, it won't work.

This usally happens randomly so i'm forced to leave my laptop on for few days and switch it off as I have a lot of work on it and I haven't got a CDR drive to back-up my data either.

Can anyone please suggest what could be wrong and how I can fix it.

Thanks in advance!!!

Sounds like there may be a loose connection - if it's still in warranty get on to Sony ASAP.

Anyone else got any ideas?

I agree - dodgy connection.
If its under warranty get it sorted ASAP.

Also make sure that your bios is upto date.

If the problem occurs try removing your battery and then try to power it up.

It could be static build up on the BIOS which can cause the computer not to boot properly.

I had a similar problem on my old Compaq laptop.

I found that if i removed the battery and powercord from the computer for a minute or to the system cleared its self.

It could be that the system is not powering down properly

Static

I'm sure this came up recently and everyone said "rubbish". Are you saying that static can cause problems with bootup problems?

Yep i have encountered this on some graphic cards in desktops.

Where the card wont initalise due to static build upon a graphics card. this happens with some monitors pluged in.

I am not saying that this is the case with your computer. It could be a possibulity.

Thanks for replying.

I tried taking the battery and power cord of for some time but it doesn't seem to do anything so I don't think its any static build up. I think its most likely a loose connection.

The warrenty's over as its quite an old laptop but I defienitly want to get the problem fixed. Can I still get Sony to fix it for me??

You can, but it will cost you more now.
