RDR-HXD870 Recording d/l Dvd's

I have had a RDR-HXD870 capable of recording d/l dvd's, I inserted a large number of d/l just lately (over last 6 months) and it will not record on any of them all being top quality manufacturers, it refuses to acknowledge that there is a disk in the tray.

I have then inserted them in to the new RDR-DC205 that I recently purchased which is a total waste of money and space, but it accepts/ records them every time, I just wondered if there is/was a fix for this problem, I always keep up to and install the latest firmware as it is issued by Sony, so everything is up to date.
