Play memories home how to edit

Hi everyone - I have a sony cyber shot camera given as xmas present and am still learning how to use it. I installed the programme "play memories home" and have got round to downloading my photos. My laptop is a mac-air. However I can't figure out how to edit the photos. There is a tools section on the right hand side but when I enlarge a photo in order to edit - the tools disappear. I have tried to figure this out from the manual but the screens on various tutorials don't look the same as mine. I already have a basic photoshop on the mac air but thought I should use the play memories home as it is designed for use with this camera. Also - when the tools guide is there - I can't see any tool for changing colour, effects etc.

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

Any recommendations on a particular tutorial?
