hey Folks,
I see a weird issue in my XZ. My friend calls me and he gets a message saying "I am in meeting" after the call gets disconnected from my cellphone.
I was very curious to find out what was going on. I did some simple mock calls and found out that, when I get a call and the cell phone is in my pocket, the screen wakes up and comes in contact with the leg and accidentally it sends quick messages or receives a call or disconnects a call.
This got pretty weird very lately as my friends and family members started complaining that they have been getting such messages from a while. Looks like the proximity sensor is not doing its job when a call arrives.
Is there a way to fix this by Sony ? The double tap to wake is off in my cell phone.
Hello @Keers and welcome to the community!
I'd like to help you diagnose this, but I'll need you to try a few things first:
- Go to Settings -> About phone -> Diagnostics -> Test -> perform Proximity sensor test. Did it pass or fail?
- Go to Settings -> Call -> Smart call handling. Is it enabled or disabled?
- Restart your phone in safe mode and test if the same issue happens there.
Thank you for getting back on this.
I have checked the three things and all are fine.
1. The proximity sensor works fine in the service tests.
2. There is no smart call set in my cell phone.
3. The safe mode also tends to turn the screen on when I get a call in the pocket. verified it now !
Please help me out to fix this.
No I dont have any of them.
The problem doesn't seem to be hardware related as the sensor is passing diagnostics test. Are you willing to try a software repair using Xperia Companion? This will do a clean installation of the latest firmware and will also wipe your internal memory, thus ruling out software related issues. Follow the steps given in the blue link, do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable.
Don't forget to backup using Xperia Companion first, but don't include apps and settings.
But, is the phone screen expected to be off in xperia XZ when I am getting a call and the cell phone is in my pocket ?
Hmm, you know what? It should NOT be off. The proximity sensor will turn off the screen only when you are in-call, not when the phone is ringing. Forgive me for this mistake.
Well, you can try to have your phone screen face away from your leg, so the static from your body won't activate screen touches and send random messages. You can also consider using a smart cover like this one.
Yeah that is the solution I guess. thank you for reverting on this. But somehow I feel this feature has to be checked in by some developer at sony. I mean all the cell phones that I have used in past 4-5 years never wake up the screen when it is in pocket.
Thank you for the help !
I am having the same problems with the Xperia X, I ran all of the tests in diagnostics and the front camera was the only test that failed, could this cause the screen problem?
