W995 Broken screen - contacts backup?

My W995 lost a fight with a car door.  The screen/slider is bent, broken and unreadable but the keypad and phone functions seem to work ok.  Before getting it repaired or replaced I want to back up the contacts but cannot seem to connect to a PC in 'phone mode'.  I can connect in 'media transfer' mode but this does not permit contacts backup.  But when connecting the usb lead I cannot see the screen menu options to change the connection mode.

Any ideas appreciated!

First of all, restart your phone and wait a few minutes to be sure that you are on the stand-by screen.Then using your centre (to select) and navigation keys press in the following sequence: centre--down twice--once right--centre--down 4 times--centre--down twice--centre--centre--up once--centre: your phone should now be in USB PC/Phone mode.
