Hi @Tara2013, let me see if I can help out here. 

It depends a bit on which device you want to transfer the messages to. If the receiving phone is a Xperia device released before 2019, I would suggest that you use Xperia Transfer as @uliwooly mentioned. If you want to transfer the messages to a Xperia device launched during 2019, I would suggest  that you use Googles backup & restore-function.
