Newbie - I'd like opinions on getting a new Sony 2021 TV

Hi guys,

I'm a newbie here.  I'd like to get opinions before I buy only my second Sony TV.

Opinions where to buy high end TV, warranties and long term use.

1.  I am looking at purchasing one of the top 2021 models when available in the UK, and I'd appreciate suggestions of where to buy based on your purchase of a Sony TV.  I'm sure there are differences between sellers big and small, but I'd like to get any info to prevent me making a silly newbie mistake.

2.  I intend to keep the TV a long time, e.g. 7 years or more, and I'd like to get any tips from the community particularly getting things mended. That brings up issues like warranty, spare parts availability and who to call when things go wrong - i.e. only Sony? - and therefore get a warranty with them?

which TV do you have in mind? From how you worded your post I assume you are talking about one of the OLED TV models or one of the LED TVs with local dimming!?

As I am from Germany, I am sure you neither have the option to order from the Sony Store in Berlin nor is "OTTO" available in the UK, which is my favourite online store for bigger electronics.

I personally would try to get at least five year warranty, there are some shops who offer it right away, sometimes you have to wait until certain promotions run and in other cases you have to pay for it.

I am hoping to select the A90J.  

I will know whether to choose thw A90J - or an LG model -  once I get to visually see the A90J.

At the moment, it seems possible to preorder from a handful of retailers, and in addition to buy from a Sony Store whether they are physcal or online.

It is hard to guess which seller will be the best for my situation in the long term.

The Sony online stores indicate that they would do a (total of ) 5 years warranty, provide a replacement in case of faults in the initial 30 day.

After that, they said I could contact the Sony store or Sony Support direct, for a Sony authorized service centre to help resolve any issue.

There is a UK wide company providing repairs which is offered by many retailers. However, I have had some past experiences where I thought the repair was not really up to the standard I would have expected. This means I am unlikely to purchase a warrenty with a retailer using this company.

I use Hughes because they are a Sony authorised repair centre. During the warranty period you simply call them and they come to you and leave a loaner TV should they need to take it away. I had one of the famous bad batch of XD93s which failed after 9 months. Without hesitation they gave me a full refund towards a new XE93 which is still going strong.
