I am trying to download different apps bbc/sky news etc... but I keep getting that message...
however I am in the uk.. where these are allowed... I bought my tablet from the usa ... is there anything I need to change in my settings that will make websites and apps know I am in the uk?
or have I made a big mistake by buying it from the usa?
do I need to rreset it or reinstall the software?
also how do I change the nstive browser to view websites in thier full version and not mobile sites by default..
thanks in advance
alex
Ah, this is where things ,might get complex.
as far as I have found, one of the stipulations that is part of the build for any Android OS is that it is region based which stops people importing goods between countries making it easier to control the release of products so what you are experiencing might not be fixable.
The settings are just for time/date wont really move forward to your location so you may not be able to get around this. I will try and find the article on this and how Google have designed their OS.
nooo... please dont tell me ive made a stupid mistake !
what if I completely reset and reinstall android os ? is that even possible...
could that also explain why my remote controll app doesnt have sky+hd controls
Sadly this is the case with the restrictions Google enforce when allowing manufacturers to develop Android so yours will be identified as a US product so certain things may not work. BBC iPlayer may do because it goes by your ISP that you are using but not sure if it would yeild the same results.
Now the difficult part about what you would need to do, well I am not sure how much effort would be required. You would need to find some way of extracting the OS from a UK tablet then find some way of installing that on yours. Since like most Android devices, they only look at updates when available so not sure how you would flash your unit completely. The biggest thing you need to factor is that during this process, you could corrupt your unit turning it into a paperweight so for the effort you would have to go through, well I personally wouldn't bother.
When I check my remote control list after checking the "Add" button, under "Satellite Box", I have @Sky which could be for the majority of Sky boxes BUT don't lose hope since you can use the "Learn" feature instead so all hope is not lost.
In short, if you are finding that your unit is lacking, the only solution would be sell it and buy one from your resident country. Hope that helps.
has anyone been able to download bbc iplayer?
As far as I am aware, it is available for download on mobile devices but since Honeycomb/Tablet devices can access the website direct, the app is not required.
When bypassing the Marketplace and going to the Android Marketplace website, it shows as downloading for my HTC but my Samsung Galaxy S and Sony Tablet are not compatible as the site works fine without the app.
Since it requires a wifi connection either way, I just created a bookmark to the Home Screen which works the same way the app would I guess. Unless I have missed something?
I've just bought the Tablet S From the US and this limitation cut of my whole enthusiasm.
Is there any way to solve this issue in the EU?
THX!
