Im Pretty sure that if you upgrade the memory yourself it doesn't void the warranty AS LONG AS YOU USE OFFICIAL SONY MEMORY. This doesnt mean you have to buy from sony but it must be offocial sony branded modules.

Again i could be wrong...

Yep, I think you're right.

Definitely true.

I upgraded my memory about a year ago. Worked fine until recently - now the system isn't recognising the extra RAM. Gave Vaio-Link Warranty a call (I had the foresight to buy the Warranty Extension) and they're gonna sort it out. As soon as I back up my files to my new hardrive that is!

However two points to remember:

1). As mentioned in a previous reply - you MUST buy SONY branded RAM modules. (Warranty peeps asked if had done so).

2). Be careful when installing the new module and make sure the warranty people know you've been careful (if they ask). At the least make sure you ground yourself before touching the module itself (i.e by touching the bare metal of a radiator). And then ground yourself to the laptop by touching any metallic part of the laptop. This prevents any static electricity from damaging any delicate circuits. (The best prevention method is to wear an antistatic wristband).

Laters! :smileytalk_to_the_hand:

If you use another type of memory then simply remove it and install the original memory if you have to make a warranty claim.
I would never use Sony memory - it is a ripoff.

I think youll find that sony dont manufacture the ram at least not in the case of my vaio. It uses Samsung and no other parts to my knowledge is manufactured by sony.

You're right, it's Samsung that make it for them.
