SVE1713C5E Dying - Cannot Restore System

Hello,
My laptop started taking 30 mins to boot up and shut down over the last 10 days. Hard drive only 50 percent full. I ran AVG, CC clean, Malwarebytes, defrag, Chkdsk and memory scan. No problems were detected.

I shut it down and it does not boot up now. I press Assist button and request system stabilisation, but it does not detect my recovery DVDs. So now I am stuck.

I am resigned to having to reset to factory settings, but now sure how to get it to do it. ?

The laptop is 8 months old and top of the range.

Thanks

OK so no response. Not good. I thought this was supposed to be a Sony managed forum to provide advice?

I am starting to get a bit p*ssed off with this. I have a lot of Sony products due to brand loyalty, but this is not the way decent companies treat their customers and sources of revenue.

Hello Liverpool779,

Sorry to hear about your problem with system restore.

We have escalated it to Sony Support and will let you know as soon as we have a reply.

Meanwhile, have you tried contacting them directly? You can do that by calling 0844 8466 555, or you can email them by filling in the form here.

Ps. Just to clarify, this forum is here primarily for users of Sony products to share information & problems and to help each other to resolve them. I am sorry that in this case you have not had a prompt answer for one of our more experienced members.

I hope your problem is resolved soon,

best wishes,

Agnieszka_J

You mention that it does not detect your recovery DVD's possible explanation could be that your recovery DVD's may be corrupt. Have you tried removing the recovery DVD and using the hard drive recovery partition to Refresh your Vaio?

To restore your Vaio back to the original factory configuration shut down your Vaio, once off click on the assist button.

Once Vaio care rescue mode appears choose Recover when choose an option screen appears choose Troubleshoot, then Recovery and Maintenance follow the wizard and until Start recovery wizard appears.

Beware restoring your vaio back to the original factory configuration WILL remove all of your personal data so make sure you backup anything that you can not afford to loose before doing the above.

Hi Liverpool779 and welcome.

Just to be clear, DO NOT use the 'To Refresh your computer' option.  This option, in Windows 8, is not clearly explained - it reinstalls the Windows Operating System only (and nothing else) and deletes all your other preinstalled Sony software, drivers and data.

For a full line by line description of how to recover your Vaio to factory settings, follow Rich912's advice in this thread: -

If this is unsuccessful, please contact the official Sony Support for help.  As has been already said, this is not part of Sony Support - it is a forum where users of Sony products like you and I try to offer discussion and advice.  Unfortunately, many users have had other things to do today!!!

Good Luck and come back if you need more help and I'm sure someone will try to help, but a reply often requires a bit of patience.
