keys

I have just bought my sony vaio. I just discovered that some of the keys are not functioning as they shoud.. for example if i wanted to write @, i would need to press shift 2, if i needed the " sign, i would need to press shift '...and lastly if i wanted to type the hash key, it comes out as \...can anybody advice? is there anything wrong with my format or is this factory defect and i need to send this back to its dealer?

That means Windows is in US keyboard layout

Go to control panel and regional settings and change it to British (UK)
