Why does Sony ship laptops with 256mb X 2 , thereby filling both
available DDR slots and making the upgrade to the maximum of 1gb so
expensive ?.
Is iI I wonder because both dimm slots have to be propagated?
That would be the only justification.
Sony then compound the expense by implying that only Sony memory is
compatable and charging £199 for each 512mb per dim.
A grand total of £398(not inclusive of postage) to add 512mb of ram.
Thank God for Crucial which cost about £153 (post incl.) for 512mb X 2
Had my gripe now I will shut-up
ps Bought 512mb of Crucial memory cost £78.34 Laptop and me going
very well on 768 mb ram
Sometimes (and only sometimes) its cheaper for manufacturers to buy and install 2xDIMMs then 1xDIMM
But I agree - if you only got 2 slots, its bloomin frustrating!!
Totally agree, they should fit 1x512.
Or even better 1x1GB, but they're expensive.
Prices aren't that bad if you're a reseller.
Mark ups on some items are really good, others you only make pennies on!!
But 1x 1GB stick would be nice (espeically seeing as my VAIO shipped with 512MB!)
Hehehehehehe
Which VAIO do you have now Jaan?
Still got my GRX616MP
But looking at the new GRT9 series - very tasty
Looking at Acer Ferrari
I might just build my own if it come to it.
Won't be able to make anything better then a 15" wide screen laptop, but it'll be interesting to do.
Good luck
viola - I got sony to exchange my 2x256mb memory sticks. I don't know if yours can be exchanged though. The reason I got mine exchanged was because at the time I bought my 816s, the advert read 1x512mb module and I felt I had been deliberately been misled into buying my vaio. If this is the case with you then you should definitely contact sony - you are eligible for a refund or at least an exchange.
