FE11S - memory card adaptor and SD cards

The VGP-MCA20 memory card adaptor supplied with my FE11S doesn't read the SD card I use in my camera - I get the "please insert a disk" message. The same card works fine in a SanDisk USB reader but this isn't as convenient! Is anyone able to confirm whether their adaptor works with SD cards?

I should point out that the same adaptor does work with MemoryStick and MemoryStick Pro cards. I don't have any xD or MMC cards to try. The SD card that doesn't work is a byteStor 512MB Hi-Speed SD.
