Can someone send me the v8117 software update for the Sony KDL-40R483B television as it is not available either from Sony directly or from the Sony Website.
I need to install the update by a USB stick.
Thanks.

There’s perhaps a hint in the literature about the withdrawal of these updates for older TVs that you can still get them by special request to Sony Support.
Certainly worth asking if you otherwise draw a blank.
I received the software update from Sony after making a request.
I am having difficulties installing the v8117 software update, which was sent to me by Sony, to my Sony KDL-40R483B television. The .pkg file is the only file on the USB stick, which can only be formatted to FAT16. Please see below for photographs including the error message. I may need a newer USB stick or do you think it is another issue?
Any assistance would be gratefully received
When you downloaded the file from Sony, what did it download as, usually Sony Updates would download as a .zip
file which on completion of downloading would automatically open (unzip) to a further zip file which you then transfer to the USB stick.
Are you dragging the .pkg file onto the USB, if so you should be opening the .pkg file to get access to its contents.
Double-click on the .pkg file whilst it is on the Mac and see what the Mac wants to do with it, normally opening a .pkg file will start the Macs inbuilt installer app, this seems unusual for a Sony TV update but give it a go and see what happens if it opens the .pkg file and places what could be TV compatible files on your Mac.
Can you check your Macs Trash to see if there is a Sony zip file in it. If there is drag it to the Desktop.
Did Sony give you any instructions what to do with the file they sent you, did you tell them you would be downloading it to a Mac. Are you able to post the link here so I can download it to my Mac and see for myself what is happening.
Formatting the USB stick, have you done this using the Macs Disk Utility app found in Applications> Utilities.
It can be launched from the Dock if the Utilities folder is there (usually by default it is).
Open Disk Utility, by default Disk Utility only shows you the Volumes on your Mac, to format correctly you need to
have the Disks to be shown, click on View in the menubar and select Show All Devices.
Now in the left hand column you will now see the Disks displayed (usually the manufacturers name) and the Volumes are now indented below the Disks.
With your USB attached to your Mac you will see under external the USB disk, the manufacturers name and underneath the Volume named Simon.
Click to highlight the USB disk, click Erase, from the dropdown at Name give the Disk a name.
at Format select MS-DOS (FAT) and at Scheme select Master Boot Record, click Erase.
This will reformat your USB stick to FAT 32, which the TV is able to read.
Hi @simonruse
Assuming that is a Apple Mac, is there any chance you can use a Windows PC to prepare the USB. There should be just one xxxx.pkg file in the root folder of your USB.
It appears to be a common problem on multiple systems, for example people find it extremely difficult to prepare a Ford Sync update USB using a Mac, while it works first time using a Windows PC.
Also in the old days, I found a soft reboot (power cycle) with the USB drive already inserted, sometimes worked.
Hi,
I have been unsuccessful in installing my software update to the Sony KDL-40R483B by transferring the update to the USB stick through a Windows computer as well as restarting the television with the USB stick attached.
Any assistance concerning my issue would be gratefully received.
Please note my USB stick can only be formatted to FAT16, where as previous posts mentioned FAT32. Please also note when I download the software update (http://tv.update.sony.net/swdl/ond/2014/eu/main/F18665000_PS103623/sony_tvupdate_2014_8117_euf_auth....) the following occurs:
The download link has ZIP listed on it but a folder is downloaded with the PKG file inside which is then pasted over to the USB stick using my computer.
Let me know if you require any further information.
Thanks.
Simon
Using your Mac you should be able to format your USB stick to MS-DOS (FAT) which is FAT32 as I described earlier.
If you cannot reformat the USB ditch it and use another one.
On your Mac, when you download the file it downloads as a zip file, when the download completes the zip file is automatically unzipped to the folder you mention with the .pkg file inside. The original zip file is in the Trash you can drag it out onto your desktop, you could try putting the zip file on the USB stick and see if that will allow you to install.
I still think that Sony have sent you the wrong file as that is not the usual format a Sony update usually arrives.
Have you gotten back in touch with them to find out.
Hi,
I have reformatted a new USB Stick to MS-DOS FAT32 and the pkg file is still unable to install even if I unzip the original zip folder from the trash folder on the USB stick.
Let me know if there is any further assistance you can offer. Otherwise I will contact Sony to determine if there is a solution.
Simon
