RM-ED030 for 3D LED TV KDL-40LX903

This 3D Sony LED TV was the flagship model TV when I bought it in 2011.  I have already had a second remote (RM-ED030).  Now that one has stopped working after 3 years.  Is there a design fault?  Is there a more reliable remote now available?
