Anyone know how to get Skype to work with a KDL-40W5710 tv?

Your TV is not a skype-ready one. So to have skype on your TV i can suggest other options:

1. get a Blu-ray Disc Player + TV Camera (you can find sony products at http://www.sony.co.uk/hub/1237481896565)

as above,

the cheapest option would be a skype ready player but you would need to look at the 2012 models as thus far the latest line up for 2013 do not support it.

Ok, I bought a Panasonic Blu-ray player with Skype inside. I also have the TV Cam for Skype. Player setup ok. I plugged cam into player, pressed the 'Skype' button on the remote. A messege appears.....a communication camera cannot be detected..

Am I doing something wrong or are they not compatible?

well... my guess is that cam needs to be a panasonic or compatible with panasonic.same thing with sony tv or blu-ray, they won't work with non sony cam. and make sure you plug the cam to the desingnated usb port of your player. then i strongly suggest you contact panasonic support team, coz as for sony your sony tv got nothing to do with it.
