Apple TV wont play sound through Home Cinema

I have a KDLS40A12U Bravia TV which is connected to a DAV-DZ500F Home Cinema System. I have recently purchased an Apple TV and connected it to the HDMI port at the back of the television. All works fine except for the sound which will not play out of the home cinema system. It does however play through the TV speakers if I enable them again. Please can you tell me what connections to make so I can play the Apple TV through the cinema system.

Just pickup an optical/toslink cable and connect apple tv to your surround sound system this way. Basically I don't think that TV supports ARC so this would be a simple solution.

thanks, but Surround sound does not have an optical in socket do you have any other ideas?
