Add Bluetooth speaker to kdl-55w905a

I'm hoping to add a JBL Bluetooth speaker to my TV kdl-55w905a after my connected Bose speakers stopped working. But when I search Bluetooth devices on the TV it does not find anything, not even my Sony phone XZ1.

I've read that Sony TVs only Bluetooth to keyboards and game controllers, is that really true?

Your 5 years old tv can support only mouse via Bluetooth.  Newer selected models from last year (including my own oled a1) support the a2dp Bluetooth profile for connecting audio devices.
