STR-DN1080 video throughput issue

I have had this receiver for about a week and have found the following issue very frustrating:

Initially noted when trying to run my sky q box through the receiver the output to my tv appears to switch on and off.

Having recently updated my ps3 I have found the same issue, but only when playing movies on it, until playing a disk it works fine!?

This has been solved by turning off the hdmi control, but this is not really the idea of having a receiver surely? Isn’t the point of hdmi controls to simplify tech usage and consolidate controllers?

Why is this receiver unable to cope with this problem, especially when the compatibility issue exists with another Sony product! 

Any advice to make this work?

I had a similar issue which was solved (in my case) by unplugging the tv (android) and plugging it back in. Also, make sure your tv is running the latest firmware. Hope this helps...

Thanks for the suggestion, but not helped this time. All software on all equipment is already up to date too.
