STR-DN1060 not working with 4K

I have A Virgin Meadia V6 box which I connected to my TV (a Sony 4K compatible KD-49X830) via my STR-DN1060 home cinema amp.

When I tried to enable 4K output from my V6 box settings menu, I got a message saying that 2160p wasn't supported by my TV.

However, when I disconnected the V6 from the amp and connected it directly to the TV it worked fine....so it seems as though there's an issue with the amp.?

It's probably worth mentioning that I'm using decent quality HDMI cables, and I've enabled 4K on the HDMI inputs on both the TV and the amp settings menu's.

It's not a disaster, as connecting the V6 directly to the TV doesn't affect the performance of the amp, but I specifically bought this home cinema system as it's supposedly 4K compatible & I wanted to connect all my devices to the amp & have only one HDMI cable running to my TV to minimise cable clutter. 

Any ideas anyone.?

Having a quick look at your product manual, the STR-DN1060 only has one HDCP 2.2 complient input - (MHL) SAT/CATV. It also looks like 8 bit only. Is this the input you are trying?

many thanks for the reply...I’ve downloaded a copy of the instruction manual & it does say that all of the units HDMI inputs support 4K.?

Having said that, my technical knowledge isn’t great so please bear with me if I’ve misunderstood something.

As you say, it does also mention that the SAT/CATV is the only input that’s HDCP 2.2 compliant and that was the input that I was using..

Hi @rgale47. Yes you should use the HDCP 2.2 compliant input to pass through 4K HDCP content. And of course the HDCP 2.2 compliant output to the TV. Can you set the VM output to 8 bit. The only other check is that you are using the latest firmware https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/audio-components-receivers-amplifiers/str-dn1060/download...

Hi.

Yes I’m definitely using the correct HDCP 2.2 ports for output & input and I checked my firmware and it’s fully up to date.

Unfortunately my V6 box simply scans for supported output and there’s no way to manually change any of the settings.

i guess I’m just stuck with things as they are. As I said, it’s not a huge issue as it doesn’t affect the units performance in any way...it’s more of an irritance than anything else.
