yes you can, however if your struggling to get it to work then rooobb is the one to ask, hopefully he will see this and respond.

Since Bravia55Hx923 put me in the loop, I'll try to help. If your recorder doesn't have a D in the model number (i.e. hxD780) it won't be able to receive digital channel since it doesn't have a digital tuner...

rooobb is correct, i made the error of looking at the 870 and not the 780 model sorry.
