BDV-E1200 very noisy unit

Hello. Just bought and setup this replacement for my Panasonic home theatre that has stopped working. The Sony unit is very noisy - there is a constant hum/low level noise that is very evident at quiet moments. is this usual for this unit or have I got a dud. thanks, Simon
