BDV-7200 - Constant problems

Dear community

I am the frustrated owner of a BDV-7200 home cinema system. It is connected to a Samsung Smart TV and a Huwai Satellite Receiver/Recorder.  When it works, it's brilliant - but I am having huge issues with the unit basically locking up. It plays no sound, will not go to the Home Screen (though the remote contral commands are being received) and there seems to be no logical reason for why this is happening. I have unplugged it and most recently reset it but nothing seems to work. I already returned one unit but the replacement is having the same - in fact even worse problems. I cannot re-install the firmware as the device just tells me it has the latest version. Has anyone experienced anything like this? It's driving me nuts and I am on the verge of being pressured to return it and buy something different!

Any advice gratefully received!

Hi Forton,

Welcome to the community.

We'll look into this and get back to you as soon as possible.

In the meantime, maybe another member will have some advice to offer.

Best wishes,

Hi Forton,

This is strange since you've already had an exchange, so the issue could be related to your particular setup. So tell use more about it:

How often does this happen when the system is in use?

Do you usually unplug it from the mains at all?

Are there any other devices connected to your setup?

Are you able to notice any pattern that accompanies the issue when it happens?

HI there

Here's the story as much as I can remember!

I set up the first device as recommended by the quick-start guide
- Samsung Smart TV via ARC to the Sony ARC output
- Huwai Satellite Box to HDMI 1 on the Sony
- Cable Box to HDMI 2 on the Sony

The first thing I noticed is that the Sony defaulted to TV and immediately
there is a feedback on the speakers which gets louder and louder (and the
visualiser is displayed). Also the device was not behaving, certain
options were not available (for instance I could not set any channels to be
skipped). I changed the setup to have the satellite box go directly to the
TV, so that the image and sound appeared on the TV setting of the Sony.
This seemed to work and briefly all was well. Then after a few days, the
device started to freeze on the TV setting, the unit became unresponsive.
I tried unplugging and replugging which would work temporarily, and I even
did a full system reset but nothing worked for any period of time. I then
took it back and exchanged it.

The new unit seemed to work better. I set it up with the satellite
connected to the TV as this seems to be the best set-up , you turn on the
Satellite box, this turns on the TV and the Sony. After about 30 seconds,
you have the sound. Turning off the TV turns off both the Satellite box
and the Sony. All was well for a month. Then this weekend the device for
no apparent reason started doing what the first one did. It was stuck on
TV, there was no sound, only the visualiser, the only commands that the
device would accept were on/off and function - but even if you selected
another function (like Bluetooth or Bluray) it didn't actually change. The
Home menu was unavailable, even after unplugging and waiting a few hours.

The way I eventually fixed it was by going into the Samsung TV system
set-up and going to the Anynet+ (HDMI CEC) setup. By scanning for devices
I get the Sony Unit to appear and by selecting it, it starts up, the TV
changes to the Sony Channel (HDMI 4 ARC) and goes straight into the Home
Menu! This appears to have unblocked the issue (at least for now).

So I suspect that indeed the unit is not faulty but there is a
compatibility/software issue with Samsung Smart TV's (mine is a HU7100S). I
was reading the reviews on the site I bought it (Coolblue) and I noticed
that several people have complained about similar issues - and one of them
mentioned that they had a Samsung TV as well ... might not be a
coincidence...

Hi Forton7,

I'd recommend that you keep this setup . Basically connect the Sony system to the TV through ARC as you mentioned, then keep the other external devices directly connected to the Samsung TV. This way you can have all sound sources output directly from the Sony system.
