Dear All,
I would like to ask for your help with regards to the STR-DN1080 multi channel av receiver.
I am a user from Europe and I am having trouble with the Music Center app to stay connected with my home network. My amplifier is connected to the network with a network cable and is split to 2 zones. When I run the easy setup through my tv within the amplifier interface, the network gets connected easily and i can use the Music Center app to control the amplifier via network connection. However, when I turn off the amplifier and turn it back on it cannot anymore connect to the home network.. Strange thing is that within Spotify I have the option to start playing my music via Spotify connect and it turns the amplifier on, however it doesnt anymore connect to the Home Network through Music Center app and I cannot control sounds of the zones or anything else. When I try opening the app it tells me to connect via bluetooth.. When I do, it works of course but its bluetooth connection and not home network.
Many thanks in advance for your help in this!
Regards,
Thomas

Dear Ed,
Thank you for your message, but I have already checked those tips and none address my issue...
Hope someone can assist me with the specific issue.
Thanks all!
Cheers.
Hi Leidal,
Have you checked if the firmware is up to date? The latest version can be found here: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/audio-components-receivers-amplifiers/str-dn1080/download...

Hi Win_88,
Thanks for your message. Yes, my firmware is up to date..
Really no idea why its not connecting to the network properly.
Cheers
Hi Leidal,
I took a look at the help guide and found these steps: https://helpguide.sony.net/ha/strdn108/v1/en/contents/TP0001221163.html
Another idea that popped in my head while writing this is to test a different network; you can do that by creating a wifi hotspot from a smart phone and then connect both the receiver and you own phone to it then try connecting in the same way again.
Let us know how it goes!

Hi Win_88,
Thanks for your next tip. It looked promising but unfortunately all those mentioned are ON and ALLOWED.
I also tried creating a new network with a phone, but the issue remains. Once the amp turned off and turned back on again it just loses the network and can only connect via bluetooth. If I enter easy setup and run the setup again (even though it already has a tick next to Internet Connection Settings), then the network works. Then I turn off the amp and back on again and the phone just doesnt connect through the Music Center app.
I couldnt get the pattern yet, but sometimes the network does get connected randomly. I tried paying attention to what I did or how i played music during those times but not able to figure out the pattern there..
Another information that might cause the underlying issue is that when I turn on the amp it always wants to connect to a Bluetooth device by default. The 'CONNECTING' sign is blinking on the amp and then 'PAIRING'. Of course if I dont pair it via bluetooth it gives up after a while. BUt could this be an issue that the amp always wants to connect via bluetooth and kind of forget about that there is a home network already set up and it should connect through that?
Thanks.
Leidal
Hi again,
How about a factory reset then? here are the steps: https://helpguide.sony.net/ha/strdn108/v1/en/contents/TP0001221267.html
Win_88
Hi Win_88,
Tried that also already..
Just a side note in case you had some influence on the developers.
I honestly think that the app interface is faulty somehow. Plus its not user friendly at all i found.
For instance the zone colume control is a mess. Why do we have to click so many times to control the volumes in each zone? I open the app, click on the amplifier, wait for it to load and sometimes it doesnt even load and have to restart the app, then have to click on top for Main Zone, then change it to Zone 2 and only then I am able to change the volume. Then if i open spotify to change the music the Music Center app doesnt stay on the volume control page on the background and I have to select the respective Zone again... This really is not user friendly at all.
For instance my brother has a Denon amp and within that app you can open one single page where you can turn zones on and off and change volumes.
I would even add a feature where you can set the default volume of zones when turned on in different times of the day. For instance I listen to music in the mornings also. Zone 2 is bedroom, so for example in the morning from 6-10 am when I turn on the amp it starts playing music in Zone 2 at a low volume and Main Zone is somewhat higher as its in the kitchen and living room. So many cool things could be added, but honestly the current app is an annoyance.
Really dont understand what Sony did with this app development...
Sorry for this little burst.
Cheers,
Leidal
Hi Leidal,
I'll definitely pass your feedback on as well as the issue connecting to the network to my Sony contact. I'm sure they can help.
