The STR-DN1080 AV receiver Chromecast capability is slowly disappearing with many apps now unable to stream to it due to the fact Sony has NOT incorporated the latest Chromecast Built-in software update (currently at 1.47.xxxx) making it incompatible with current apps. Sony is currently providing 1.21.xxx version Chromecast Built-in software which is very much out of date into their most recent firmware update. The issue has been confirmed by both Google and TIDAL technical support.
The resolution to the problem is for Sony to incorporate the latest Chromecast Built-in software which is provided to them by Google into a firmware update which isn't a lot of work. This would go a long way to solving a lot of ***** off Sony customers who are livid with Sony's poor customer support and response to complaints about this very problem.
Pick up your game Sony, it's not like it's going to cost you money to solve this issue on products your sold unsuspecting customers - Google has already done the hard work on the software side, just provide it! 😞

I concur.
Used to use the casting function all the time, now it doesn't work hardly ever. Occasionally I can cast directly from my Android phone's Deezer app, but it is patchy and doesn't play for long. I cannot initiate a Cast using Google Assistant at all, be that my phone's assistant or a google home device. It starts the Casting screen, but then that's it.
This was actually one of the reasons I chose this amp. This is not acceptable.
Sorry for hijacking your thread, however its not just limited to the STR-DN1080. I have the HT-XT2 and this has also not received any firmware updates since 2017 (which i think is 1 year after it was released). This weekend I noticed it was no longer playing as part of a group I was casting too, I then realised it was completely missing from all apps on my mobile as well as the chrome browser on my desktop.
I knew for a long time that the chromecast software was old on it, however it no longer working has made me rather mad. It's not like its a cheap device.
Sony need to sort this out. Some of these devices really aren't old at all and I'd expect support for a least 3 years after it was removed from retail.

Having the same issue, since the latest update M41.R.0516, which should supposedly fix this issue... I had a radio app, which worked fine until this update. No connection possible anymore, the device is not even visible anymore!
I still have to reset my Router, which has helped before, but I cannot say that the use of the STR-DN1080 has been without problems. I hope Sony will release some updates soon, to add some stability to this system...
I have a similar problem of apparent incompatibility between Chromecast and my Sony STR-DN1080 Receiver.
It had worked heretically for a while now: it works for a bit, then I get a gray screen with sound till working. For a while I suspected the problem was with my Chromecast device, as it is getting quite hot; disconnecting it and reconnecting it seemed to help for a bit.
I just got a brand new Chromecast with Google TV, and the problem is even worse, as the image flicker from the beginning. When the Chromecast device is plugged into my TV set directly (LG OLED) it works just fine. When I plug it into my Sony STR-DN1080, it either does not work at all, or at times it works for a minute of two, then gray screen again.
Note that I installed the latest Firmeware M41.R.0516, but it did not solve the issue. Also note that I have an Amazon TV Fire Stick in another HDMI port of my receiver, which works just fine; exchanging HDMI ports shows that the problem is not related to the HDMI port, as the Chromecast device does not work, whatever port it is in.
It is a shame, as I picked this Sony as it is advertised as working smoothly with Google Home environment.
I have tried many different configurations of the HDMI Setting in the Sony receiver, as well as the resolution 4K or not) in the Chromecast device, without success.
