Well I'm here again after contacting Sony help. They advised me to update the firmware which I cannot do because the fault with the MAP-S1 is not connecting to the internet and a connection is needed for an update. They also advised a factory restart so I tried that pressing the buttons as stated in the manual and they do no such thing. Now they suggest I take the device to a Sony repairer. So how will they fix the issue without visiting my home to connect to my router? No doubt the cost of that will be prohibitive.
Looks like I'll have to put up with reduced capabiltiy - no Spotify, no inernet radio, no wi-fi connection. Guess I've learnt a lesson about Sony products.
