PS-LX310BT record player spinning much too fast

I own a PS-LX310BT record player since a year or so. So far it has worked well, but since a few days ago it is suddenly spinning much too fast. I used an app to measure it and when set to 33⅓ rpm it's actually revolving at 42 rpm! Changing the speed and/or size settings makes no difference (except making it even faster). Nothing changed in set up or connections.

Is this a known problem? Does anyone know what could have caused this and how I can fix it?

Have you tried following the Maintenance section of the Manual?

If you already have done so, you should probably reach out to the Sony support reps as it may need repairing.

I have looked at the manual, but there is nothing in there about the speed being wrong or how to fix that. I was hoping it might be a known and easily fixed problem, but it looks like I have to bring it in then.

This unit may need inspection, you should reach out to your local repair center to do so.
