KD49XG9005 update software to 6546. TV now reboots after a period in standby. It was fine on previous version. On researching seems to go back for some time as a generic problem. Tried clearing cache, switching wifi on and off as suggested on some posts. Inconsistent behaviour makes difficult to use harmony controller and of course means waiting for reboot. Anybody got understanding if what causes this and found a solution.
ok with reset if I have but want to avoid and prefer if someone can confirm it worked from them.
Solved! Go to Solution.
For the record:
Here is what worked round it.
Switch off wifi cured the ‘reboot coming out of standby, but not. A solution for a Smart tv!
Switched to separate wi fi network because there are some reports of NAS using Bonjour causing similar problems ( boot after standby) so I tried a clean internet connection outside my home LAN . This did not cure the problem. The github site which has a lot of android developers talking about various issues, also mentions Sony tvs rebooting after standby and measurements taken during standby of tv behaviour. There some pointers at HDMI causing partial wakeups from standby as well as some ( not applicable here) issues if VPN clients are installed on the tv.
So after a bit of trial and error around these factors:-
Cured. Switched off Bravia sync on Inputs menu and disabled listed devices In Bravia sync while leaving them physically connected to selectable HDMI porta.
Now tv coming our of standby normally.
Conclusion. Probably a design problem. There are mentions of the problem for several years back.
Reason for the tv working normally before update. On initial installation I set up tv aerial and internet only connections with no live HDMI connections. Later I connected Apple TV and Fire tv to HDMI. On input list they appeared as HDMI and the labels I had attached. All worked fine.
The HDMI inputs were live during the update. I had noticed that there two new Streams on the inputs list marked from the Amazon and Apple Devices. These showed too in Bravia sync. As i say these devices were connected during the update and subsequent self configuration probably switched on Bravia sync.
So my problem appears solved, related to updating with external HDMI being live during the process causing them to be configured in a way that then caused problems. I guess in some ways they caused the tv to misbehave in standby, communicating over the wifi.
Im posting in case this helps others if they have similar problems.
After an update is suggest a Factory Reset, do you want to try?
Thanks for the reply. Basically tried that just in case after your note. But others have too. No difference. Reckon its a bug introduced by the update. So looking for someone that has had the problem with Oreo and resolved it, or Sony comment its a known bug that is to be fixed.
Switched wifi off overnight. No problem coming out of standby without wi fi.
Switched on wifi. Short time in standby is ok. Switches on as normal. After a couple of hours in standby with wi fi on the comes up with home screen then reboots about 5 seconds later.
Have factory reset, cleared cache, rebooted home wifi network etc.
The problem is reproducible, seems to have quite a number of reported occurrences. So it should be fixable.
Possibly background app crashes OS which uses wifi when in standby
To my mind there is a flaw in the operating system somewhere or some glitch that sony should be able to track down at their engineering level - unlikely to be first level support solution. On this board, is there a route to ask Sony beyond the usual reflex ‘reboot, restart, type response?
that first line understandably tends to have as a back stop as it cures a lot of problems. But think we are at the stage of eg Memory dump, stop such and such a service etc.
No downloaded apps beyond what Sony recommend, so basically its out the box but firmware upgraded to recent OS release.
A Sony rather than user or hardware issue I suspect.

I am currently experiencing the same issue.
I updated initially to android 8, with my soundbar plugged in via HDMI ARC.
I then noticed the TV would reboot after trying to turn it on in the morning, this was repeatable.
I then decided to do a factory reset, without the soundbar plugged in.
The TV behaved normally after this, did not reboot when turning on in the morning.
A few days later I plugged the sound bar back in to ARC, TV went standby overnight, and then rebooted upon turning it on in the morning.
The issue is NOT resolved by a factory reset.
Hi @enjoi.adrian,
Here's more of what you can try:

All inconvenient and things a consumer shouldn't have to do.
Would be nice to get a response from Sony about when they plan to roll out a fix for this.
Since they are the ones who broke it with their update rollout in the first place...
This feels like a bit of underhanded planned obsolescence to me...
I had the same problem that started after a recent software update. Didn't want to try a Factory Reset as you said it didn't work. Came across a Youtube video from someone having a somewhat similar problem so I tried their solution and it appears to have worked. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Home Network > IP Control, and set the Simple IP Control switch to the on position. So far it seems to be working normally again and no longer re-boots when I turn it on in the morning.
Hi,
I have the same issue with my Bravia Oled tv. Tried to follow your instructions but when I get past ‘network settings’ I assume you mean to click on the network I am linked to (I have Virgin & they offer two different connections through their router called 2g or 5g). And if I do click on the one I’m connected to, I can’t see “simple ip” in the options?
I wonder if you could clarify at all?
Many thanks.
Richard.
