I have just connected a Sky Q box to a KD-65X9005C TV via HDMI 1 input set to enhanced mode. The Sky Q box is set for 2160p 10 bit and everything is working fine except for one issue: the TV no longer allows Wide Mode (Wide Zoom, Normal, Full, Zoom), to be changed. The TV displays the message "Not available with current signal" when the Wide Mode button is pressed on the Sony remote. If the Sky Q box is set to 1080p output, Wide Mode is restored as usual. This appears to be a Sony TV issue not allowing Wide Mode with 4K Hdmi input. The Sony TV also does not allow Wide Mode if viewing 4K via the built in Netflix, YouTube etc.
My question, then, is there some way to get Wide Mode working with 4K Hdmi input or streamed content?

Upscaling HD, or less, involves the relatively minor job of taking 2,073,600, or less, pixels and extrapolating them into 8,294,400 or less
Whereas zooming the centre of a 21:9 picture, already rendered as 16:7 UHD, approximately, to the 16:9 centre of the 21:9 picture, involves rendering some 6,319,543 pixels into 8,294,400
That's 3 times as many pixels to consider as any HD upscaling, Maybe the hardware just doesn't have three times the welly to deploy for this upscaling?
Im going to change the issue to something more generic. As the "Wide Mode" options are unavailable for Netflix, YouTube, KODI - no matter the resolution. I cant test Amazon, as I dont have an account.
Even forcing wide mode via a dedicated remote control button brings up message of "feature unavailable"
I have just tried the Sony PS4 Pro and this has the same issue. PS4 Pro Output Information: 3840x2160 - 60Hz, RGB, HDR 2K/4K, HDCP2.2. Tested by playing Star Trek Beyond HD film trailer. Black bars top and bottom - no way to adjust. So playing movies on the PS4 Pro also an issue with regards to Wide Mode on the Sony TV. Games, of course, not a problem but the Play Station does aim to be a media centre too.....
same with my 9305 most of the time wide mode not on the action menu on 1080 i .p doing my head in
Changing the aspect ratio, wide, zoom, smart etc. is left over from the pre-HD days. Most makes of TV (not just Sony) will not allow you to change the aspect ratio unless you change your signal source back to the Stone Age (576p) i.e. standard definition. So if you want to revert to a terrible picture then change your source e.g. Sky Q to 576p and then you will find you can change it to wide etc. It must be 15 years since I fiddled with the aspect ratio in the pre-Sky+HD days.

Sorry, I just tried 1080i on my Sky Q and Wide (Wide-zoom, Normal, Full, Zoom) are available from the Action Menu on my KD-55XE9305. I normally run in 2160p 10 bit mode with no Wide available. It didn’t work on my older TVs in 1080i.
