Power on/off - rear of TV

Curious really:

Our KD49XG839 TV has three switches, grouped together vertically on the rear panel. The central one is for power and I'm fine about that(!).  The other two buttons are a plus button and a minus button north and south of the power button.

I can't find any info as to their purpose, so would welcome enlightenment.

These buttons are used to increase/decrease the sound volume of your TV.

Page 4 of the Reference Guide, which is next to useless in 19 different languages:-

has a picture of this part of the TV. It tells you (item 7)  that the middle button is Power, but does not think to tell you what the other two buttons do 😢
