Hello, There does not seem to be a Board for the Soundbars, so apologies if this is confusing.
My XR55A80L sits on a glass TV table. It is impractical to put the Soundbar in front of the TV. I intend putting it on the shelf 8" below. Bearing in mind the vertical sound projection from this A5000 Soundbar, before buying I am concerned if this obstruction would be noticeable to the listener ?
I would appreciate an authoritative comment and thank you for your time.
Solved! Go to Solution.
The TV has two positions for the stand, normal position and a slightly higher position called the soundbar position.
The soundbar position is 4.2 cm higher than the normal position, would that be enough to place the soundbar below the TV on the top of the TV stand. Check the specs of the soundbar.
The set up guide that came with the TV should help or click on this, and go to 5 C.
Here is the Sony support page for your TV, here you can access the web manual, downloads, specifications.
(which includes the dimensions of the TV in its different feet positions.)

I wouldn't have up firing speakers on a shelf below the TV, it defeats the purpose.
You can also buy a separate stand for the TV that attaches to the VESA mount screw holes at the back,
typically these can be raised to accommodate soundbars or centre speakers.
These are quite easy to assemble, but with the extra weight you would need to make sure your glass table top can take it. Remember to take the TV's own feet off.
Click here for examples, I bought the one at the top of the list and it works very well.
But check all specs for dimensions, VESA mount settings, weight etc etc.
Thank you.

Having just bought the glass TV table I had no wish to use a VESA arrangement in the corner.
My question only concerned the 8" space obstructing the sound projection in practice.
I accept your view "I wouldn't have up firing speakers on a shelf below the TV, it defeats the purpose."
and will therefore choose a different Soundbar.
Thank you for your time and comment.
