2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. 2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. 4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

I wonder if it is worth setting up a wiki page (there are plenty of free sites) where people can contribute towards creating our own manual for a lot of these tasks?  We use them quite a lot at work for documenting how our systems work for our users and it works fairly well.

Ditto with the 49" model...  The 'channel' menus are an example of ridiculous levels of incompetence... The satellite tuning makes its own mind up and adds/subracts channels at will! Freeview is little better.

I've even tried saving my channel list - editing it in the (apparently amateur-built) application, factory re-setting the TV then 'loading back' the edited channel list onto a basically 'blank' TV....  It still seems to be 'fond' of 'perv-vision' as the set adds this filth (which I REALLY don't want in my home!) back and just won't store the channels I want as I want them on my TV.

Hi,

Just got the KD55X8509C and connected it to the CT380 soundbar using HDMI(ARC). All was working fine, with soundbar switching on as soon as TV was switched on. However, last two days, the soundbar doesn't switch on straight away. There is a 15 second delay before it switches on. Has anybody else experienced this problem and if so, can it be resolved?

I have done the usual, reset soundbar, TV and disconnect and reconnect, but still having the same problem.

Hi UKPiglet and Caledonian,

Best way to manage the channel list on your TV is to export the channel list to an USB Stick (Settings > channel set-up > digital set-up > technical set-up > program list transfer) and then using the Sony Editor on your PC to delete unwanted channels. Then save this list an import it back to your TV. Please use an empty USB stick formatted with FAT32 to save the program list.

To stop the TV looking for new or changed channels please disable Service replacement in "technical set-up".

There is a way to edit the channel list to remove 'undesirable' according to taste of course, channels.  It is buried dwon in the settings menu.  I can't recall off the top of my head but it really is not too difficult to be honest.  I went looking for it as I am not interested in the various 'XXX' channels, too old now  I soon found it.  What I will say is that it is tedious and time consuming and annoyingly has to be done all over again when you do a standard channel rescan.  Which Freeview requires every 6 months or so when they get new channels 😞

Is the SONY editor purely a text editing program?  I am presuming it is a Windows compatible piece of software?  I do not use Windows only Linux but I do have access to plain text editors and can save to multiple formats.  I would imagine it would be a standard format being as the tv operating system is Android (built on Linux)?

I'm afraid Peter this simply does not work!

If you'd read my previous post properly you'd realise that I took the time to save my channel list, factory re-set (and power cycle) the TV then restore the channel list to an 'empty' TV...

Yes... "Service Replacement" IS off...

But still the set actually deleted a (satellite) channel and replaced it with another while I was watching the news. More usually, accessing the 'guide' from satellite will cause the channel you're on to be deleted from the list...  The system is seriously unstable!

As for the 'Sony Editor' - which member of the community wrote and provided it?  For you cannot seriously be touting this as a piece of professionally produced software?  Nor, for that matter, the set's own editing facilities as adequate; and therefore the kind efforts of an amateur as any kind of substitute for simple 'fitness for purpose'.

It's Windows, pretty basic and very fiddly...  What it 'edits' is an XML file...

You will spend HOURS trying to edit your channel lists with it; and I'm not the only one to find (where's Manuel?) that it just doesn't solve the problem with the satellite tuner randomly resetting itself!

Additionally - it doesn't allow you to edit channel names ( as you might need to with regional variations) and when transponders change, well basically you'll be back to square one! No facility to edit or add new data! - Somebody 'out there' has obvoiusly been kind enough to create this and fair play to them; but as I said, it's not a professionally produced piece of software and basically doesn't solve the problem!
