I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
I got my 65S8505 6 days ago and yes, it's unacceptably clunky. I hoped the update would help but so far it always fails to update, saying, the update server is temporarilly unavailable. Error code 2123. I must have tried about twenty times.
Internet is working fine I can get all content except the update. I'm on fibre and connected by ethernet. WiFi connection achieves the same result.
Funnily, the download appears to work but stops at about 85% before throwing up the fail message.
I've switched everything off and on, tv, router, modem but to no avail. I've trawled the net including this forum but no joy. Any advice?
The comment about HDMI output being low applies to me as well.
I have a new Sony HT-RT5 soundbar that I am considering returning to John Lewis based upon disappointing sound levels via ARC from my KD-49X8305C. The only device directly connected to the soundbar is my Blu-ray player. I tested this yesterday evening and the sound output was great. I know that I could connect my other external devices to the soundbar but as the main reason for getting this TV was for 4K content what would be the point of having low audio levels with great picture quality?
I would hence like to also ask the question:
How can I alter the HDMI sound output level?
Thanks, Julian.

You need to download the update to a USB from your computer, then hardplug the tv on the wall and while the tv is unplugged you put the usb-stick into the USB port 1 - its important its port 1 and not 2 or 3! Then reapply AC and start the tv. It should start to import and install the update automatically.
Kindly regards Nicolai
Thanks Nicolai, I had read about that method but as this is a new Internet TV connected to ethernet should it not work the way it's supposed to. Otherwise how would I get automatic updates?
I may try the usb stick but has anyone updated through the TV connection?
Hi Folkfanger,
I have one the 43" sets, connected using homeplugs on a Fibre connection - recent update worked fine this way for me.

I've only encountered this issue on the lower firmware (ex 2.2xx or older) after the manual update using USB theres no problem updating using the service on the tv.
Kindly regards Nicolai
Thanks Andipr.
Which method are you referring to, usb or direct connection?
That's odd Nicolai. Despite being a brand new set from Sony centre, my version is 2.257.
Hi Folkfanger,
I used direct connection.

The firmware depends on which month the set is produced. The ones we recieved in the store last weeks was produced in July for example
