I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
So, just switched on my TV and it says there's an update, and I won't be able to use the TV until the update is carried out. No choice I guess, so currently updating.
What changes are in this update? Need to tell the wife, as I'm going into hospital tomorrow so she needs to know if she's got to do anything different with the TV (KD-65X8509C).
No YouView then?
Mines started to install the update, let's see what it brings, I know you can't polish a turd but we can at least roll it in glitter.
The update is well worth downloading as it fixes and adds polish. People may be shocked at the improvements. My KDL43W775C is now running and looking much better.

That's good to hear.
so, gave it a first test and selected the program guide app from the main menu. Popped up quite quickly and found a new option for 'timer list' clicked the guide option and....nothing. Every program box stayed saying 'no event information'. So thinking the tv might need to be in tv mode to populate the guide i pressed the tv button on the remote and....nothing. Screen stayed blank. So pressed home and selected the 'digital' option and...nothing. At this stage i was about to get very angry but decided to turn off a the wall. After booting it came up with the optimising apps screen and did one app (after doing 205 when updating the firmware), got to the home screen and went through same first step as before and....success! TV came on in the background (BBC1, Pointless BTW) and the guide sprung to life.
Now to check Kodi!
I recommend a factory reset after installing the update.
Can someone please check if it has been upgraded to Android 5.1? Downloading as I speak. I also second the above, a factory reset would be very wise.
So Android 5.1.1, all done. I'm so glad nobody took my advice from my previous post and did it my way, as here is the official image. Now apart from NFC 4.2 this display is maxed out already. HDMI 2.0 with its 4K 60fps will become the new base standard for the consumer hopefully.:smileyplus:
O only use this display with my PC, So I will have to look into HDMI CEC next, but thank you again everybody here on this forum Kudos to you all. Not one harsh words said and the main issues have already been resolved.:smileypeace:
kind regards
Richard
