Serial numbers on products where are they?

I have just brought a new lens for my a300 but I am trying to find out where the serial number is for the product can anyone help in this quest? and what am I looking out for?

You may find it on the lens but the best place to look will be on the box.

Look for the Barcode and the full serial number will be shown under this Barcode.

This is a Vaio Computer  but on other Sony items the Product Code may be prefaced by "P" and the Serial Number by "S01".
