Hello All,
Does anyone know of a way to control the NEX-5 through a PC/laptop via USB?
I would like to use the camera for some astrophotography and being able to remotely control the camera from a PC is a massive plus? The feature is available for Canon DSLR's and they seem to dominate the astro world at the moment. I'm pretty sure if there was the same feature for the NEX range they would be snapped up in the 100's for this purpose alone, let alone any other hobbies which use this feature.
Or even if sony released a software development kit for the NEX range so people could programme it themselves would be amazing!
Cheers,
Tom
Great idea for the astrophotography - seeing as the NEX is significantly lighter than any DSLR on the market it would be a breeze to attach to many telescopes, assuming you can find the right mount adapter.
On that side, do you know where to find a suitable mount ?
As for tethering, that has been requested in the next firmware update already on this forum - let's see if Sony listen to our requests - but to date the USB doesn't even support PICTbridge, let alone remote control from any form of computer.
For the time being you could try the Sony RMT-DSLR remote controller (it's about £ 20) and can be forund here
Alternatively, there's a cheaper photo-only shutter release which you can pick up for around £ 5, here :
Hope this helps.
Gregg.
I think I have the same problem as you, not for astrophotography, but for photographing flower arrangements (ikebana). I wrote a post on the difficulty last month. Did you receive other suggestions about a software?
