Hi All,
Can anybody please help me how to do focus stacking with Sony A7r4?
It is a built in functionality of most of the brands and I cannot believe that a serious Sony has no such functionality.
Best,
Z
Hi zolliejunk,
Welcome to the community.
I'll look into this for you and see if I can find out. Someone else in the community may be able to advise in the meantime.
Thanks,
Pascale
Hi Zolliejunk,
The function itself isn't available in this model. You can try doing this manually by taking different pictures with different focus distance and then merging them in post production using a software like Photoshop or similar.

That's really not a good answer, this feature must be the most requested feature I've seen for Sony cameras and specifically the A7R4 but I have exhausted all possible avenues/emails and never even get a response from Sony!
It's literally a dealbreaker for me in switching systems and yet nobody from Sony seems to care.
this could be added with a firmware upgrade EASILY , there is an open memories version that works on an A6000 for god's sake ... but as usual with sony once youve bought a camera DO NOT EXPECT them to give you and feature upgrades in firmware , because if you cant afford to buy a new camera every year they dont give a toss about adding value to existing models.... other manufacturers DO ,, but no not Sony 😞
as the other manufacturers are catching up with sony and overtaking them , they will definately loose market share . and of course the goodwill of their customers .
ive repeatedly said bird eye autofocus , focus bracketing , multiple exposures all in camera and the newer menu system would be very easy to code into the A7R4. THEY JUST CHOOSE TO IGNORE EXISTING CUSTOMERS
I can't agree with you.
All main actor on camera world don't add features that had not included at presentation, or on early few month by presentation (like Canon do), or just key features on top cameras (like Sony do), or to save his losed market (like Nikon do).
Sony had introduced several features on first and second alpha series, when it had to grow in the market and had to learn how photo's world work and what photographer need.
From third alpha series, sony's camera has become stable and consistant, and with a growing professional market that dont' need new features like a smartphone, but consistant performance.
No really noticeable features are added, only some promised function to top level A1, and a new integration to newer remote app system.
Yes, probably a focus stacking could be added to A6000 functionality, but who should pay for an upgrade of a 10 year old camera?
You can't say that sony ignore customers, becouse actually it's not.
Sony just make his work with his sustenable policy
PS: to be clear: I'm not a sony's fanboy. I'm just a sony's user that buy gear to work, ex nikon fanboy, and today canon admirer.
Hey Hartside, since this is a user based community, I recommend contacting Sony directly with your suggestions, you can reach them using this link:
