Xperia Android updates policy...

Is there any particular reason for phone like new Xperia 5 IV to get only 2 major Android updates?

Anyone have any official info about this?

Not really any particulary reasons besides of the sheer company unwillingness. Sony asks for Apple prices but gives not even half of the software support Apple does. Or what Samsung does at cheaper prices lol. With the sd card slot and the 3.5 headphone jack I would actually like to buy them and would even pay the price if the software support would be atleast somewhat adequate for the hefty price. Even only security updates for atleast 3-4 years would already be quite ok. But looks like the ever declining unit sales of their phones haven't changed something in their minds.

Exactly what you said... I purchased 5 IV for 900€ only to find out that after I updated it to A13 Next one will be the last one and that  😡

For Christ sake I purchased Samsung A53 5G for my wife for 250€ and tht phone after A13 will get 3 more major Android updates....

It's just hard to understand...

We were having that same discussion on a different thread and in conclusion, no there isn't any official statement and it's really annoying. 
However, all the other manufacturer's you've mentioned are doing the exact same thing. 
The only ones who support it a bit longer are Google through their pixel phones cause they literally own it XD. 
But Apple? Come on, don't get me started there.

I'm sorry but you're wrong Samsung A and S devices from 2021 onward are getting 4 major Android updates they literally said it on the presentation of S22 lineup...

I was in disbelief when my friend was bragging about it but its the truth...

Anyway I have small hope Sony will announce something similar on presentation of Xperia 1 mark V and that will include mark IV series too...

PS I wasn't even mentioning Apple lol

Yea since it's a new policy maybe Sony will catch the drift and update their policy soon about software updates. 
Usually when major companies do something, the rest follows. Sadly it lastly happened when they started removing cables and chargers XD.

Yeah that sucked too I had to buy this 30W fast charger for my 5 IV for 40€ damn...

What I need now is only good news about software updates because it just eats me alive knowing I'll be getting just one more 😞

Then let's hope for the best then XD. 
I recently read online that they've reconsidered and released Android 13 for the M3 devices, so that leaves us with a glimpse of hope.

Sadly they did not reconsidered, M3 devices were always going to get A13 since they relased with A11 so A13 was second major software update...

@zlays84, I believe Xperia 5 IV will be supported by more than 2 major Android updates. Nothing confirmed by Sony yet though.
