Charger for Xperia 5

Does anyone know if I can use the Xperia Xz1 QC3 charger with the Xperia 5 and vice versa?

Yes you can use Sony Quick Charger UCH12W charger to charge 5, but it won't fast charge because 5 doesn't support Qualcomm Quick Charge any more. It supports USB Power Delivery so you have to charge it with USB Power Delivery charger, in this case Sony Fast Charger UCH32C that comes in the box to fast charge to 18W if you want to have fast charging.

Vice versa it is clear that you can use Sony Fast Charger UCH32C to charge XZ1 but it won't fast cahrge because XZ1 doesn't support USB Power Delivery. It only supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 so you have to use Quick Charge charger with Qualcomm Quick Charge, in this case Sony Quick Charger UCH12W that comes in the box to fast charge to 16.2W if you want to have fast charging

@tomo100brt pretty much covered everything! Devices launched with Android Pie does not support Qualcomm Quick charge 1.0/2.0 or 3.0 and instead they support USB Power Delivery which is a form of quick charging and in my own experience, charges the device faster than Qualcomm Quick Charge did.

You can charge your Xperia XZ1 with either charger and the same goes for the UCH32 that came with the Xperia 5, but for the fastest possible charging, use the QC 3.0 charger with your Xperia XZ1 and the UCH32 charger with your Xperia 5!

The best part about PD is that it's an open standard which can be implemented by any manufacturer, kinda the same as QI and you don't need to run around with different chargers/cables.

But doesn't PD make the phone hotter while charging and thus degrade battery life quicker over time? 

Using battery care I think I'd prefer using my old sony quick charge 3.0 charger to charge over night since I don't need it to top up fast.

To be honest, I have heard so many mixed opinions on quick charging and if this causes the battery to degrade faster or not. The information below is what I have for our devices regarding this.

"Battery Care will keep your phone from overcharging, while Xperia Adaptive Charging monitors your phone as it charges, to make sure the battery isn’t overworked."

If I'm not mistaken, some manufacturers only provided a "quick" charger together with their devices, for example, Google comes with a PD charger, OnePlus has their dash charging and even Apple is nowadays including a charger with their devices that will charge the device quicker than a normal charger. I think we are at the point now when there are so many battery technologies for making sure that even if you quick charge your device, it won't have an affect on the battery degradation.

I personally have never charged my phone over night though, I always charge it to 80-90% before I leave work for the day and then charge it when I need to do so again, but never over night.

Yeah you make a good point. 

I've read a lot of different things about it as well and don't know what to believe anymore. 

Some sites claim the technology has overcome this problem, others claim you have to keep it charged between 20-80 30-60 etc etc. 

I'll just stick to the battery care feature haha.

Yeah, there are some many different opinions and facts regarding how to charge the device and to be honest, I don't know which ones to trust.

Don't do this, do this, don't do this, do this instead, do not use a fast charger, use a fast charger.

The Battery Care feature is even better these days since you can customize it and you aren't "forced" to always charge it at the same hours of the day (mostly when sleeping) and if you prefer to charge it at work so it's fully charged when you leave work, you can do that.
