Xperia Z5 Compact - FB contacts not syncing

Hi there

This is my first ever sony mobile. I've been an HTC fan ever since i jumped from blackberry back in 2010. The reason for my jump this time is that phones are simply getting to big, i like my smallish phone, and the Z5 compact is the best on the market for all around build and performance, trumping the HTC one min by a significant amount..

Ok, so, to my problem.

I can’t sync my facebook contacts to my phone. my google account contains my main contacts list, but then i use facebook to sync the extra information and also the profile picture. This was a doddle on the HTC, after you added both the gmail and facebook accounts, you would wait, and then the device would prompt you to link the contacts together it deemed were the same across the platforms, this also included linked in contacts if you added a linked in account.

IVe tried several ways, through the native add account, or through the facebook app. both seem to end up adding the account through the same location, I’ve cleared the data on each occasion so I could replicate a new account addition each time.

I have the sync contacts selected in the settings on the facebook account, but when it tries to sync, it stops almost immediately after starting and simply states that its up to date, when it actually downloaded nothing.

Having read all the forum post about this issue, followed various instructions and come up without a solution i thought I'd open this post

Any help to resolve this would be much appreciated
