I don't see why a fix is taking so long if it's software.
just read: "New firmware (23.5.A.1.291) certified for Xperia Z3 Compact". source: http://www.xperiablog.net/2016/08/03/new-firmware-23-5-a-1-291-certified-for-xperia-z3-compact/
@sony support: beside whatever will this fix our "button problem"? i very much hope so.
so, "New update (23.5.A.1.291) rolls for Xperia Z2 and Z3 devices".

it hasn't landed for me yet, but it would be nice, if anyone here with our problem, who got it, could report, if the update includes "our" fix. thx i will report as soon as it has landed on my z3c...
So as i mentioned a few pages ago in the comments, I sent my Z3C off to Sony for repair as it was in warranty still (just). Overall, i had a great experience. I was without my phone for two weeks overall, so was using a spare, broken Z1 which i just about got by with but i thought I'd share what is on the test and repair return form that they sent back with my phone. This might be of some use to someone, i don't know.
Repair Details and Tests Performed:
Diagnosis Performed -------------------------------- RESULTS: Fault Resolved
Software Update Performed ----------------------- RESULTS: Passed
Quality Control performed -------------------------- RESULTS: Passed
Live call performed ----------------------------------- RESULTS: Passed
Parts replaced ---------------------------------------- ITEMS: display, case (3), sticker
I know it's not the most insightful bit of info, but whatever they've done, phone works and looks like brand new (i think they even gave me a new dust cap for the micro SD card which is nice and snug fitting again)
Good luck people
i am also facing same problem after factory reset my mobile z3 compact
I have the same problem too. The phone worked perfectly well until the 6.0.1 update (23.5.A.1.291) and now the soft keys don't work. That area of the screen works when there are other types of buttons there. I tried the Repair option from Xperia Companion option and that didn't fix anything. I hope there is a solution soon.
Hello there
So after 20 months of careful use (never dropped or hit/shocks, no water test, charge at 20% up to 80-85% of battery once in 2-3 days), this common Z3c users 'curse' strikes me too.
Seems it's the start of the end, since there is no clarify response/update/solution from Sony, and this topic is up from October 2015. Almost one year of same problem around the world, and still no solution except sent your phone to local Sony service, they will change your touch/display/etc, give you back, so in another 10 month the same problem will occur.
I am very disappointed/angry, after years of using Sony.
After marshmallow update they wipe the epic Staminas (seems batteries are too good, so need to shorter the lifetime of it)
Then notification bar 'swipe' problem.
Now home/back buttons are dead, and failure seems will increase to all display.
Well, it was great experience with Z3c. Loved that phone, but seems it's time to search for other brand, with good quality, and no faulty phones after one year of use. Sorry
I don't wanna believe about Planned obsolescence, but same faults are too common...
My Z3 Compact started playing up 3 weeks ago. It started with the notifications pull down not responding consistantly. That is now working, but the back and home buttons are dead. I've tried using a back button app, but it's not much use. I've never dropped the phone, and there isn't a single scratch on the screen. I've used glove mode which works briefly then stops. Can anyone at Sony help?
I am guessing that all the Z3 compact are starting to fail. Its a chain effect after upgrading to 6.0.1. Thinking of 6.0.1 can install all apps to external storage, i did an upgrade and now lost the most basic fuction (home and back function). Regretted. Hope that new patch can resolve this. If not, i guess it will be the last sony product.
