Hi,
I have recently been having a couple of problems with my z5. The phone turns off randomly.. If I try to turn it back on shows the red battery symbol on screen and won't turn on. Currently the only way to turn it back on is to plug it in and then turn on. It will then power up and says I have plenty of battery, I can then remove from the power lead. Happened today again and when I plugged it in and turned it back on said it still had 74% battery. Is this a battery error?
Hello @Familyman, welcome to the community!
I'm really sorry to hear about your phones behaviour! Do I understand correctly that when you are using the device, it turns itself off and the only way to start it up again is by connecting the device to a charger? If this is the case, have you noticed if you are doing anything specific when this happens? Does it happen every day or more sporadic?
Are your phone updated to the latest available software version? You can see if you have a update waiting by going to Settings > About Phone > Software Update.
You should also test your phone in safe mode for a short while, just to be sure that no third party application is causing this behaviour. In safe mode, all downloaded application is temporarily unavailable, and to exit safe mode, just restart your phone like you usually do.
If the behaviour persists in safe mode, I suggest that you do a backup using Xperia Companion and continue with a software repair using Xperia Companion. A software repair will remove all data in the phone and reinstall the latest available version of the operating system, so it's important that you do a back up before you start.
If your phone still turns off randomly after the software repair, you're always welcome to contact your Local support team, and they will be happy to help you getting your phone to a authorized service center.
Keep me posted! I would love to know how things work out.
У меня такая же проблема, батареа должни сменит?
I have the same problem, do I have to replace the battery?
gT
i've the same problem, but this suggested steps doesn't work.
Is necessaty to proceed with the battery replacement?
I really started to think that Sony have disappointed me with this device, 2 years ago was the top gamma (700€) and now is already out of sw update and full of problems started when the warrenty has been expired...All the community still waiting for the Oreo upgrade that will never come. Very sad.
Hello @Samoth1980 and hello @Samdavtat28911982! @Samdavtat28911982, your post was translated to English with Google Translate, since this is a international forum.
I'm so sorry to hear about your phones. If you followed the steps above and the behaviour still persist, I suggest that you both get in touch with your Local support team to get the phones to an authorized service center. I do understand that you feel disappointed @Samoth1980, and I'm really sorry that you have to experience this.
I hope you all have a nice day, and you are always welcome to get back to me.
My phone was ok till i put a new battery in now it shuts off too when i know i have plenty of battery left, only way to turn it back on is by plugging the charger in
This is happening to me too, keeps turning off at 20-30% but when plugged it still says it's at 20-30%. Tried it in safe mode, checked the battery health, done a repair on Xperia companion, deleted all my apps. There seems to be no solution yet everyone is having the same problem! I don't really feel like sending your phone to Xperia support is much good if its happening on lots of phones. Xperia needs to find a proper solution!
I am also facing same issue from past 3 weeks.first I had done all what you suggested. But it's no use.. Then I taken my hand set to Sony service center @ HYDERABAD. Then they had given me a wonderful reply that "There is no service for z5 premium handsets in total andhra pradesh and telangana. And they suggested me to go chennai or bangalore.
From hyderabad chennai or bangalore more then 600 kms. Is this service can I expect from a international brand like Sony?????
Backup your data imediately!
This is a board flex issue and the phone has a power leak between the cpu and power circuit. When it fails to talk things through it will bootloop or simply cut out. Mine lasted a couple months in this situation and now only manages to boot when twisted on a vise. Bigger design flaw than Apple's iPhone 6 and 7.
No way to fix it, since it's not worth for most techs is the microsoldering industry to reverse engineer the issue and find a work around.
There are many users who suffers a lot because their phones shuts off frequently. The problem is a serious one and it should be solved. But the question is how?
Well, here you will get some of the best ways to deal with the phone shutting down problem:
Method 1: Check battery status of your phone

Method 3: Android version upgraded
Method 4: Faulty apps
Method 5: Remove malicious malware
Method 6: Boot Android phone in Safe Mode
Method 7: Disable overheating feature
