Screen blacks out when front lens covered

The screen on my xz1 compact blacks out when my fingers hovering within 2cm from the front lens OR when Im just covering The front lens/camera.

Anyone else ? Sony can you help me?? I like your compact series a lot so I will really try to Solve this.

Total black out! I have now realized(I think) that this is happening only during calls and its really irritating.

I have observed this during the last 2 days, phone is 5 days old.

That's how it's supposed to work, not just Xperias but other smartphones too, this is to save battery and more important, to prevent your face to press any key while on the phone.

On a side note, it's not the front facing camera, it's the proximity sensor.

Ok thanks, that thing should be option in that case.. I talk mostly by speaker or headset. In both scenario I fiddle with The Phone a lot, like looking into The calender, planning etc.

I cant be the only one that find this irritating?? IF any Sony ppl sees this please make this optional.

@Mrsubmit;

When making a call on speaker or headset the proximity sensor does not act, so your screen should not turn black in this cases.

Great that what I thought initially. Is it possible, in an easy way, to record my error case and send to Sony? Or what can I do?

You can submit your feedback to Sony >>> Local support

I will also escalate this

I don't suffer from this (proximity sensor disables correctly when on call using speaker or headset) so is it worth testing in safe mode to check nothing else is taking control?
