Hello all,
Yesterday I bought the sony BDP-S1700 bluray player. It plays DVDs and Blurays perfectly. However, before I decided to purchase this device, I did read the online manual which said it played all sorts of video files via the USB slot in the front. Today I plugged in one of my external hard drives to watch a video file and the player recognised the HDD, all the folders showed up on the screen and the files also showed up in the folders but when I went to play a file I got an error message each time saying 'the file is corrupt or unsupported. I know this is not the case as I have a 4 year old Sony bluray player and all my HDD drives are recognised with it and the player plays the files too.
Can anyone give me any advice on what is wrong in this situation? The player is hooked up to a Sony Bravia 4k tv and I think the HDD is formatted to NTFS. I do not want to have to reformat the HDD as I will lose all my footage on it so can anyone advise on what to do next?
Thank you.
Hi there,
Hopefully a community member can help.
Best wishes,

Hi Sarah,
I'm curious to know the model of your other Sony player to compare the two. Also, it won't hurt to make sure the player is up to date.
