WH-CH720 Multifunction button issues on certain devices

Good afternoon.

My son got a pair of WH-CH720 for Xmas, and we're noticing that the MFB (for pause and skip tracks) doesn't work on his device (a Redmi Note 11 Pro) - pressing the button has no effect. It works fine for me (Pixel 7).  Has anyone experienced this at all on these headphones or others?

I have Moto G100 (haven't tried on another devices) and pressing the button has effect when google assistant (in my case) in Sony program is off.
