WH-1000XM3 suddenly very hard to turn on..

I suddenly have this strange problem with my WH-1000XM3 of just 2 years old

The headset initially won't turn on each time I want to use it.

After quite a long try (press and hold the on/off switch every 5 to 10 seconds) the headset suddenly switches on and I can then simply switch it off and on again as long as I use it. If I switch it off afterwards and put it away for half an hour, then the problem is back and I have to try for a long time to switch it on again….

During the attempts that fail to switch on, you will see the blue indicator next to the on/off switch light up briefly.

 

Charging is also just fine. And once the headset is turned on, it reports that the battery is fully charged. After using it for a while it also gradually drains as expected, so the battery seems fine.

To be honest, I don't understand what this could be and I had already ordered a new battery to replace it anyway. But I actually have no reason to think that it is the battery and that is why I keep the new battery on hand.

I already did factory reset the headset.
 

Who has any idea what could be causing this strange glitch?
